Topic A: Establishment of an International Organization
The year is 1945. Across the world, cities and civilizations lie in ruins, victims of yet another Great War. The League of Nations, which had been founded in 1920 following the First World War, had failed in its mission to stop another global conflict. Now, the League lies dormant, effectively shut down, with reforms urgently needed. In 1943, the Allied Powers had issued a declaration, calling for “at the earliest possible date of a general international organization”. Now, delegates gather in San Francisco to discuss the reforms that need to be made. The committee will examine what reforms are needed to establish an international organization, and what a post-war world order will look like.
Topic B: Self-determination of peoples
Throughout World War II, peoples across Europe, Asia, and Africa have been suppressed under the brutal occupational forces of Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, and Imperial Japan. In their war efforts, the Allied Powers rallied around the principles of freedom, democracy, national sovereignty, and liberation. Yet many of these principles were ignored by the Allied Powers in the administration of their own colonies. Colonial peoples naturally asked: If these principles applied to Europeans, why did they not apply to us? At the same time, new territory is being liberated in Europe every single day. This committee will examine how the wishes and self-determination rights of people across the world will be shaped in a post-war world order.
