United Nations Economic and Financial Committee (ECOFIN)
Single-Delegation General Assembly (GA)
Topic A: Global Competition for Rare-Earth Mineral Supply and Economic Volatility
Growing demand for rare-earth minerals has intensified competition over their supply, while production and processing remain concentrated in a limited number of countries. Export and import restrictions, supply chain disruptions, and conflicts over new sources can affect manufacturing, energy security, technological development, and economic stability. Resource-rich developing states face challenges in attracting investment, protecting the environment, and retaining greater economic value from mineral extraction. ECOFIN will examine how states can secure reliable access to critical minerals while maintaining open trade and reducing economic dependence on concentrated supply chains.
Topic B: International Cryptocurrency Regulation
The growth of cryptocurrencies and blockchain has created financial networks that operate across national borders with inconsistent levels of regulatory oversight. Differences in national frameworks can worsen illegal trade, money laundering, tax evasion, consumer protection, and sanctions enforcement. The decentralized nature of digital assets and the emergence of stablecoins further challenge traditional financial regulation and monetary control. Delegates will evaluate how international regulatory standards can manage these risks while allowing legitimate cryptocurrency markets and blockchain innovation to develop.
