Topic A: The Situation in Sudan
Sudan is currently grappling with a devastating conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, which erupted in April 2023. The violence has triggered a severe humanitarian crisis, leaving thousands dead and displacing millions from their homes. Critical infrastructure—such as hospitals, schools, and aid networks—has been destroyed or rendered inoperable, cutting off access to food, water, and medical care for many civilians. Despite repeated international efforts to negotiate a ceasefire, the fighting persists and continues to spread across the country. In this debate, delegates will explore how the international community can respond to the crisis—addressing immediate humanitarian needs, supporting displaced populations, and helping lay the groundwork for lasting peace and regional stability.
Topic B: Unifying Counterrorism Efforts in Africa
Regional security in Africa is increasingly threatened by extremist groups such as Boko Haram, Al-Shabaab, and ISIS affiliates, which destabilize entire regions by operating across national borders. Despite ongoing counterterrorism efforts from both regional and international actors, violence continues to escalate, particularly in the Sahel and Horn of Africa. Political instability, weak governance, and economic hardship have created fertile ground for extremist ideologies to take root. Responses to the crisis have often been fragmented, with insufficient coordination among governments and underfunded peacekeeping efforts. In this debate, delegates will examine strategies to improve regional cooperation, enhance counterterrorism efforts, and address the root causes of extremism to create a more stable and secure future for the region.
